It’s one of those nights. You can’t decide what you want to eat, and if you’re planning to join friends or family, they’re no help either. After one too many, “Whatever you want!” or “I’m not craving anything in particular,” you’ve turned to the internet.
You’re in the right spot because we’re about to rescue you from your decision fatigue and point you toward the best restaurants in New Braunfels, TX. Whether you want to get out of the house or you’d rather order take-out, these notable restaurants aren’t to be missed.
With a range of homemade German food, cozy sports bars, fresh seafood, and more, you’ll surely find something on this list that makes your tastebuds happy.
1) Alpine Haus – German 🇩🇪
Since New Braunfels has a rich German-Texan heritage, we’d be remiss not to include Alpine Haus. This cozy restaurant specializes in handmade Bavarian cooking. You’ll love the completely authentic German experience right in the historic downtown. Some standout menu items include:
- German beer
- Schnitzels
- Potato dumplings
- Spätzle
- Black forest cake
- Apple strudel
All of their food is made to order, no questions asked. Our mouth is watering just thinking about it!
2) Mozie’s – Historic Sports Bar 🏈
Sitting right across the street from Gruene Hall— the oldest dance hall in all of Texas, Mozie’s a fantastic place to eat or grab a drink before catching a show. But even if you don’t have tickets across the street, you’ll love the classic Mozie’s sliders, 100% hot dogs, and other American classics.
Sports are always on the TVs, and Happy Hour runs from 3-7 pm every Monday through Friday. Get your comfort food fix with a night out in the Gruene Historic District.
3) Gristmill River Restaurant – Refined American 🥗
The only thing you’ll love more than the turn-of-the-century architecture at Gristmill River Restaurant is the food. With fresh American classics at the forefront of this menu, you’ll enjoy a satiating lunch or dinner meal complete with delicious proteins, flavorful sides, and tasty desserts.
Don’t forget to order one of their fresh-squeezed margaritas or piña coladas from the full bar!
4) McAdoo’s Seafood Co. & Oyster Bar – Texas Creole Seafood 🦞
If you’re a seafood lover, you can’t go wrong with a visit to McAdoo’s Seafood Co. Fresh seafood is abundant with Cajun, Creole, and Texan influences.
The McAdoo’s building was originally the first federally-built U.S. Post Office in New Braunfels. In 2007, the building was restored and turned into a fantastic restaurant and gathering place. For the full experience, grab a table in their award-winning fully covered courtyard.
5) The Grapevine – Wine Bar 🍷
While we need to be transparent that The Grapevine doesn’t serve food, we just had to include this awesome environment on our list. This full wine bar has just about every wine option you could imagine. Plus, they have rotating beer and cocktail options.
Our favorite part about The Grapevine is the live music. Relax in the shady garden or cozy front patio with a glass of wine and enjoy complimentary live music by talented local musicians.
6) Muck & Fuss – Craft Beer and Burgers 🍔
If you’re looking for comfort food with a twist, look no further than Muck & Fuss. Craft beer and delicious burgers are the specialties here, but you’ll also love their:
- Fresh salads
- Signature cocktails
- Crispy onion rings
- Gluten-free & vegetarian-friendly options
- Shakes and boozy shakes
Located in the heart of downtown, this creative and locally-owned joint is always popular. Bring your pup along and enjoy the dog-friendly patio, along with live music!
7) La Cosecha – Mexican 🌮
Boasting “the best darn fajitas in Texas,” La Cosecha is a fresh and vibrant Mexican restaurant with an impressive menu. Share food family style or order your own entree— whatever sounds best!
There is truly something for everyone at this flavorful restaurant. You’ll enjoy the bustling bar, outdoor patio, and colorful main dining room. You can even rent out their party room for birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, or other events.
La Cosecha even offers a unique brunch every Saturday and Sunday! Our favorite selections are the Huevos Divorciados and the Mexican Eggs Benedict.
8) Coronado’s Sweet Heat BBQ – Food Truck 🚚
There’s nothing quite like the novelty of a food truck on a nice day. Various food truck festivals happen in New Braunfels each year, but you can check out the dedicated Coronado’s Sweet Heat BBQ food truck every week!
This popular food truck is often parked at 1920 South Seguin Avenue and is open from noon to 6 pm, Thursday – Sunday.
Grab a meal and take it home, to your favorite park, or simply enjoy it on the picnic tables right outside the truck. We recommend their Sweet Heat Ribs and a good ol’ bbq sandwich.
